Dear EMU Academic Staff Members,

Turnitin and iThenticate systems are web based plagiarism detection programs. Academic staff members of EMU have authority to use these systems.

Turnitin is a web based system used for detecting and preventing plagiarism and improper citations in student homeworks, projects and papers. Once loaded into the system, student works are compared against a vast database. The system detects excerpts, suspicious similarities, uncited references etc. and produces a similarity report. Turnitin's control database consists of academic databases, academic journals and publications, 300+ million student homework, 60+ billion web pages.

For using the Turnitin, EMU faculty members must apply with Name-Surname and EMU e-mail address to canay.ataoz@emu.edu.tr. You will be identified to the system and a user name and password for accessing to the system, will be sended to your EMU e-mail address.

Please contact with the Head of Technical Services; Canay Ataz, for more help and guidance. Tel. 6302741      E-mail: canay.ataoz@emu.edu.tr

In order to open accounts for students, academic staff are invited to first submit their course details into the Turnitin system and then, add the students to the course.  To register students to the system as a group, an Excel formatted student list can be obtained from the "ClassRoster" tab displayed under the "Semester Courses" link under the "Personal Information" section in your portal accounts. To ease the process of transferring the student list to the Turnitin system, only the areas containing information about students' name, surname and e-mail should be left while the remaining information should be deleted.
