E-Books Were Discussed At EMU Özay Oral Library

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Özay Oral Library, 
Cyprus Turkish Librarians Association and Turkish Librarians Association 
organized a panel titled “E-Book: E-Opportunity? Or E-Threat? Turkish Content and SWOT Analysis
at E-Books” on 19th October 2018 Friday, at 09:00, at EMU Özay Oral Library Auditorium.
The electronic information services, publications on digital environment
and electronic library services were discussed at the panel.



Opening speech of the panel was given by EMU Özay Oral Library
Manager and Cyprus Turkish Librarians Association President Osman Soykan. 
Soykan thanked all attendees and expressed his happiness about gathering the librarians 
who provide labor at the occupation of librarianship.  Soykan underlined the importance of exchange of ideas 
and information between the libraries. Soykan said, “It is important that who has the information.
What will be produced from the information is an open subject and as librarians 
we always defend the information to be sharable.”



In his speech, Turkish Librarians Association President Ali Fuat Kartal
underlined the importance of how information is used and stated that libraries
are one of the most neutral institutions that approach information.
Kartal said that dynamic developments are taking place in the world and mentioned
that the libraries should be designed accordingly with the age we live in.



“Infrastructure is Necessary for E-Book”
In his speech, EMU Rector Prof. Dr. Necdet Osam stated that e-books
are very important. Mentioning that the necessary infrastructure
should be built in order to move to E-Book technology in the education
system, Prof. Dr. Osam said, “Since its foundation, EMU moves with
the times. There are 26 thousanduniversities in the world. EMU
is one of the top tier universities in the world and is recognized by
evaluation institutes. E-Book subject is an indicator of the transformation
from generation to generation and technology use is important at primary
education. I believe that suggestions regarding the education system
shall be presented in this panel.”

After the opening speeches, Prof. Dr. Osam presented thank you certificates
to the panel participants, members of Cyprus Turkish Librarians
Association and Turkish Librarians Association and sponsor companies.



Reading Culture Discussed After the opening speeches, the
Opening Conference titled “E-Book: Reading Culture, Education and
an Evaluation Considering the Libraries” was provided by Hacettepe
University Information and Document Management Department
Lecturer Prof. Dr. Bülent Yılmaz. With the completion of the Opening
Conference, the panel moderated by Yüzüncü Yıl University Library
and Documentation Unit Manager and Anatolian University Libraries
Consortium (ANKOS) Member of the Board of Directors İsmail
Çetinkaya begun. The speakers of the panel were Atılım University Library
and Documentation Department Manager Emre Hasan Akbayrak,
İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi Library and Documentation
Department Manager Göknur Aslan and Gündoğan/Sam Publishing
House Owner Eren Gündoğan.

A number of academic and administrative personnel, Gazimağusa public as well as EMU
Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Halit Tanju Besler were amongst the attendees of the event.
