Great Interest Shown to EMU Book Reading Activity

Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Özay Oral Library continues to celebrate the 53rd Library Week with a series of activities. Library Week is celebrated in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) from the 27th of March to the 2nd of April 2017. The celebration that began at EMU with the caricature exhibition titled “A book is light” on Monday, the 27th of March 2017, continued with a book reading activity that took place on Wednesday, the 29th of March 2017. The book reading activity that commenced at 12:30 took place at the EMU Özay Oral Library yard.

The 6th annual Turkish Librarians’ Association annual book reading activity that lasted half an hour took place at the same time in Turkey and the TRNC with the slogan “Humans Read Everywhere”. The event was attended by EMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Özkaramanlı, Vice Rector for International Relations and Promotion Prof. Dr. Cem Tanova, Education Faculty Dean Prof. Dr. Ülker Vancı Osam, Vice Rector’s Office for Academic Affairs Coordinator Assoc. Prof. Dr. Orhan Korhan, Public Relations and Press Director (a.) Murat Aktuğralı, EMU Özay Oral Library Director Osman Soykan, members of academic staff, administrative personnel and students.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event EMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Özkaramanlı congratulated library officials for organizing and inviting children to such a meaningful event. Prof. Dr. Özkaramanlı also thanked Şehit Hüseyin Akil Primary School for accepting the library’s invitation and their sensibility shown towards instilling the love of reading to young minds.

EMU Özay Oral Library Director Osman Soykan expressed his happiness regarding the colorful and joyful nature of the annual activity.  Stating that the aim of the activity is to emphasize the value of libraries and reading Soykan noted: “Reading is a very important culture and deed. We believe that reading must become a habit at a young age. It is for this reason that we knowingly target young age groups with such activities. We thank our university personnel and students as well as Şehit Hüseyin Akil Primary School for accepting our invitation”. At the end of the event EMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Özkaramanlı presented Şehit Hüseyin Akil Primary School representatives a certificate of participation.
