50th LIBRARY WEEK ACTIVITIES (31.03.2014 - 04.06.2014)
50th Library Week which traditionally starts on the last Monday of March every year was observed by Eastern Mediterranean University Özay Oral Library through various activities and events. Observed between 31 March and 6 April 2014, this year's Library Week commenced with EMU Library Director Osman Soykan's opening address at the Library Conference Hall. Following the opening, EMU Education Faculty Fine Arts Education Department Music Teaching Program Chorus gave a mini concert with their chorus conductor Erkan Dağlı. After the concert, Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Osman Yılmaz delivered a seminar entitled "Benefiting from the Library in Scientific Research and Literature Search (Applied Web of Science Use)".
Within the framework of the Library Week, EMU Library Technical Services Unit Head Canay Ataöz represented our university in a TV program entitled "Good Morning Cyprus" by Hakan Yıldırım on Channel T on 29.03.2014. During the program, Ataöz talked about "Librarianship in Our Age" and gave information on the modern functions of libraries, information technology in librarianship and as well as the services and collections of EMU Library.
On 1 April 2014, Rukiye Kaymak, chair of the Cyprus Turkish Librarians Association, delivered a conference entitled "Past and Present of the Cyprus Turkish Librarians Association" at EMU Library's Audio Visual Hall between 10:00 and 10:30.
The second conference entitled "EMU Institutional Repository (Open Access)" was delivered by EMU Library Director Osman Soykan at the Audio Visual Hall between 10:40 and 11:10.
TRNC National Archive and Research Department Director Gökhan Şengör gave a presentation entitled "National Archive and Research Department: Services and New Improvements" at EMU Library's Audio Visual Hall between 11:30 and 12:00.
EMU Rector's Office organised lunch at EMU Tower Restaurant in honour of the librarians.
Presentation of a plaque of appreciation to the honorary guest of the library week and the first librarian of EMU Havva Sonay Barutcu and a talk entitled "Library Services During the Institute of Higher Technology Period" took place at EMU Tower Bar.
A participatory information exchange event entitled "Individual and Institutional Development" by Transformation, Creativity and Success Strategist Derviş Yaşar Baha took place with the participation of a large audience at EMU Tower Bar between 13:30 and 16:00.
On 2 April 2014, Dr. Görkem Mergen and Altan Gürsel from TechKnowlede Company delivered a promotional and informatory seminar entitled "Turnitin: Analysis Program for Plagiarism and Copying" at EMU Library's Audio Visual Hall between 14:00 and 16:00.
On 3 April 2014, ELSEVIER's Turkey and the Middle East regional Director Tayfun Basal gave a seminar entitled "New Approaches for Scientific / Academic Performance Assessment within the Changing Dynamics of Scientific Research World" at EMU Library's Audio Visual Hall between 10:00 and 11:30.
