Özay Oral Kütüphanesi Açılış Töreni - 24 Nisan 2013

 Prof. Dr. Özay Hüseyin Oral was born in Nicosia in 1940. He finished his primary, middle and high school education in Cyprus and pursuedhis higher education in Middle East Technical University in the Republicof Turkey. Following his graduation, he held various academic positionsstarting from assistantship followed by lecturer, associate professor andprofessor titles at Middle East Technical University Electrical Engineering Department. Prof. Dr. Oral won TÜBİTAK Incentive and Science Award. During his service at Middle East Technical University, he undertook administrative duties as the chair of Electrical Engineering Department and the Vice Rector. Prof. Dr. Oral carried out research and various academic activities at California University – Berkeley and advanced research activities at Manchester University. He represented Turkey at the highest level at NATO AGARD Panel for five years. He also undertook active duties in the establishment of the Electrical Engineering Department within the Turkish Republic Land Forces. In 1986, Prof. Dr. Oral undertook pioneering duties in the establishment of Bilkent University and during his service, he was appointed as the dean of the Engineering Faculty and the Vice Rector. In 1992, Prof. Dr. Oral was appointed as the Rector of Eastern Mediterranean University. During his service until 2003, with the efforts of his young, dynamic and confident team, he brought the university up to the highest level in quality and converted it to an institution of which the Turkish Cypriots are proud. In 1995, Prof. Dr. Oral was awarded with the highest possible membership grade by the IEEE and became a "Fellow" member his leadership in the advancement of the engineering education in Turkey as well as his contributions to the theory and design of the control systems. During his service, Prof. Oral paid special attention to the EMU Library and converted it to a privileged place by elevating its quality to the highest level. For this reason, we will immortalise his name by naming the library after him.

Prof. Özay Hüseyin Oral 1940 yılında, Lefkoşa'da doğdu. İlk, orta ve lise öğrenimini Kıbrıs'ta,  yüksek öğrenimini Türkiye Cumhuriyeti,Doğu Teknik Üniversitesi'nde  tamamladı. ODTÜ Elektrik Mühendisliği Bölümü'nde sırasıyla asistan, öğretim görevlisi, doçent ve profesör oldu. TÜBİTAK Teşvik ve Bilim Ödülleri'ni kazandı. ODTÜ Elektrik Mühendisliği Bölüm Başkanlığı ve Rektör Yardımcılığı görevlerinde bulundu.
Kaliforniya Üniversitesi – Berkeley'de araştırma ve eğitim, Manchester Üniversitesi'nde ise üst düzey araştırma etkinlikleri yürüttü. NATO AGARD Paneli'nde beş yıl boyunca Türkiye'yi en üst düzeyde temsil etti. TC Kara Kuvvetleri bünyesinde yer alan Elektrik Mühendisliği Bölümü'nün kurulmasında  aktif görev aldı.1986'da Bilkent Üniversitesi'nin kuruluşunda öncü görevler üstlenen Prof. Oral burada Mühendislik Fakültesi Dekanlığı ve Rektör Yardımcılığı görevlerinde bulundu.Prof. Oral  1992'de Doğu Akdeniz Üniversitesi'ne Rektör  olarak atandı.  2003 yılına kadar  süren  bu görevinde,  yanında  topladığı genç, dinamik, inançlı kadrosuyla, Üniversiteyi, Kıbrıs Türkü'nün onur duyduğu bir eser haline getirdi.Prof. Oral 1995 yılında, Türkiye'deki mühendislik eğitiminin gelişimine yapmış olduğu liderlik ve kontrol sistemlerinin teorik ve tasarımlarına yapmış olduğu katkılardan dolayı Elektrik-Elektronik Mühendislerinin dünya çapında en saygın örgütü olan IEEE tarafından en üst üyelik şekli "Fellow" payesi ile ödüllendirildi.Prof. Oral'ın görevi boyunca en ayrıcalıklı kıldığı yer DAÜ Kütüphanesi idi. İşte bu nedenle kütüphane   sonsuza kadar  O'nun adını taşıyacaktır.
